The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released provisional results for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both school and private candidates. According to a statement from WAEC, school candidates can access their results through their respective schools, while private candidates can retrieve theirs online via the Council’s website.
A total of 569,236 candidates participated in the school exam, consisting of 282,703 males and 286,533 females. However, 3,845 candidates were absent. The private candidates’ exam saw 1,390 candidates register, with 57 absent during the test period.
WAEC also reported several instances of examination malpractice. The results of 377 school candidates and 3 private candidates were canceled for bringing unauthorized materials into the exam hall, while the entire results of 41 school candidates and 1 private candidate were also voided. Furthermore, the results of 33 school candidates and 3 private candidates have been withheld pending further investigations.
The Council has cautioned students and parents to beware of fraudsters offering to upgrade results for a fee, emphasizing that WAEC results are secure and verifiable. WAEC expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the successful organization of the examination.
