The Ghana Health Service has announced that staff can now apply for study leave with pay for the 2025/2026 academic year! If you’re looking to boost your skills and qualifications while staying ahead in your field, this is your chance. And the best part? You’ll still get paid while you’re away studying! But of course, the Service also wants to ensure everything runs smoothly while some staff take time off and has provided guidelines to follow.

How to Apply

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Submit your application online: You’ll need to fill out a “Declaration of Intention” form on the study leave portal between 16th September and 16th October 2024. Head over to https://www.ghsintention.ghsnewhrims.org/ to get started. Once you’re done, print it out and get it endorsed by your Head of BMC (Budget Management Centres), herein District or Municipal Health Director.
  2. Forward your form for approval: After getting your form endorsed, it’ll be passed on to the Regional Director of Health for processing. Don’t worry – they’ll handle the next steps from there.
  3. Work within quotas: Each region has specific slots for how many staff can go on study leave for specific programmes of interest, so make sure you are applying for something the region needs to enhance healthcare, or else you may lose the opportunity.

What Happens Next?

Once your form is in, the process moves forward like this:

Why Should You Apply?

This is a great opportunity to take your skills to the next level, and the Service encourages staff to pursue further education, especially in emerging areas. Plus, it’s not just about personal growth – the better qualified the staff, the stronger the entire healthcare system becomes.

So, if you’ve been thinking about going back to school, now’s the time! Just make sure to get those applications in before the deadline.

Good luck!
