Letter To Stonebwoy – “Relax, Put Away The Ego and Pride”

The recent fracas between Ghanaian dancehall artiste Stonebwoy and his record label, Zylofon Music has generated many opinions.

One of such opinions is this letter addressed to Stonebwoy by entertainment critic Efo Napo, in an attempt to bring the recent uproar under control.

The letter reads:

Dear Stonebwoy

I love you so much… but please relax… put away the ego and pride… Everyone who knows me personally knows I have never argued for Shatta Wale over you. But enough is enough. You are lyrically better than Shatta Wale. This isn’t up for debates. But I cannot say you are more talented than him; I am not God. Talent isn’t about a soothing melodious voice only. 


I am not in support of your tactics concerning the Zylofon Music deal. They (Zylofon) look beyond dancehall, beyond you. So even if they signed another dancehall artiste which is contrary to what is being alleged to be in the contractual terms, does that alone warrant you to go wayward? So supposedly that they signed Ebony Reigns(May her soul RIP), who was a dancehall artiste, would you have done same? Or is it your distaste for Shatta wale(shatta movement)? Ask yourself, if Kumi Guitar was greedy and self-seeking, would he have encouraged NAM 1 to look beyond him and help other artistes and the entire Ghana Music Industry in general? Let us all eat together my brothers. One man no chop. 


And more importantly, please resolve your issue with Zylofon, otherwise your career would be in a total mess. Look what happened between Overly talented Brymo and Chocolate City: He wanted out, but couldn’t pay out his clause and thus Brymo couldn’t get a show or even a feature for over 2years. He is back to an underground artiste. 


It’s rather unfortunate people tag Shatta Wale to be whatever. Over the years, Shatta Wale has reiterated his desire to quash all the beef with industry players but same cannot be said of Stonebwoy. Shatta would wish Stonebwoy a Happy birthday message, post stonebwoy’s album on his wall, and even attend Stonebwoy’s concert. But can the same be said of you, Stonebwoy? Nope. Forget the humble posture, Stonebwoy is the most arrogant Ghanaian musician. My last statement is not to slander your character but it hurts to know that Shatta Wale is being ridiculed for being outspoken. With Shatta, it is “what you see, is what you get” principle. Shatta may seem uncouth and ready to go into the gutters with you on any issue, but I prefer that to a fine polished gentleman who is mean, egoistic and arrogant. I don’t even want to bring in Beatz Dakay and Prince Tagoe’s issues.


I will always listen to your melodious tunes, I will always choose you over Shatta Wale in music terms, but I prefer the “uncouth and uncivilized” man in Shatta Wale to a mean, selfish “gentleman”.
