Hometown Records has officially launched in Kumasi, starting off strong by signing its first artist, the talented musician and producer Ben Brainy. The event was a big gathering with familiar faces, signaling Hometown’s mission to shake up Ghana’s music scene.
DJ Kaxtro, known offstage as Mr. Fidel Idun Kuranchie, shared Hometown Records’ vision, emphasizing Kumasi’s deep talent pool and the challenges many creatives face without proper label support. “Kumasi has always been home to incredible talent, but what’s been missing is the backing of a real label to push these artists to new heights. Hometown Records is here to change that,” Kaxtro said. And it’s not just about music—the label plans to support other creative fields to build a thriving ecosystem here in Kumasi.
Ben Brainy, the label’s first artist, is no stranger to the music world. Known as Benjamin Yamoah offstage, he’s a Takoradi Technical University grad with a rich catalog of music as both a musician and producer. At the event, he couldn’t hide his excitement about joining the label. “This is huge for me. I’ve known and worked with almost everyone on this team for years. It feels like family, and their vision matches mine perfectly,” he shared.
Fans can expect Ben’s first single with Hometown Records to drop in November 2024, giving a taste of his unique style. With Hometown’s support, he’s ready to bring his creative energy to listeners across Ghana and beyond.
This launch signals a fresh chapter for Kumasi’s music scene. By focusing on nurturing local talent, Hometown Records aims to put the city on the map in Ghanaian and African music. With strong leadership and a clear vision, they’re ready to turn Kumasi into a creative powerhouse, and Ben Brainy’s signing is just the beginning.
